Trecator, Common Uses, Mythos.com:"Ethionamide antimycobacterial (antituberculosis) used in combination with other drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). It is also effective for the treatment of MAC and may be used in combination with as many as 5 other drugs. MAC is related to TB, but no one TB drug works against MAC. TB is a disease caused by a bacterium that is spread through the air, usually when a person who has the disease coughs or sneezes. Anyone can become infected with TB bacteria, but people low resistance, including people with HIV/AIDS are at greater risk of catching TB. Although TB can occur any place in the body, only TB disease in the lungs (pulmonary TB) or throat is contagious. TB disease can be treated and cured with medication."

Ethionamide, Indications, RxList.com:"Trecator-SC (ethionamide) is primarily indicated for the treatment of active tuberculosis in patients with M. tuberculosis resistant to isoniazid or rifampin, or when there is intolerance on the part of the patient to other drugs. Its use alone in the treatment of tuberculosis results in the rapid development of resistance. It is essential, therefore, to give a suitable companion drug or drugs, the choice being based on the results of susceptibility tests. If the susceptibility tests indicate that the patient's organism is resistant to one of the first-line antituberculosis drugs (i.e., isoniazid or rifampin) yet susceptible to ethionamide, ethionamide should be accompanied by at least one drug to which the M. tuberculosis isolate is known to be susceptible. 6 If the tuberculosis is resistant to both isoniazid and rifampin, yet susceptible to ethionamide, ethionamide should be accompanied by at least two other drugs to which the M. tuberculosis isolate is known to be susceptible.

Patient nonadherence to prescribed treatment can result in treatment failure and in the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis, which can be life-threatening and lead to other serious health risks. It is, therefore, essential that patients adhere to the drug regimen for the full duration of treatment. Directly observed therapy is recommended for all patients receiving treatment for tuberculosis. Patients in whom drug-resistant M. tuberculosis organisms are isolated should be managed in consultation with an expert in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis."

Ethionamide, What other drugs will affect ethionamide, Web Md Health:"The risk of seizures may be increased when ethionamide is used in combination with cycloserine (Seromycin) or isoniazid (Nydrazid). Special monitoring may be necessary if you are taking a combination of these medicines.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with ethionamide. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking or using any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines."

Etionamide (Systemic), Proper Use of This Medicine, Yahoo Health:"Ethionamide may be taken with or after meals if it upsets your stomach.

To help clear up your tuberculosis (TB) completely, it is very important that you keep taking this medicine for the full time of treatment, even if you begin to feel better after a few weeks. You may have to take it every day for 1 to 2 years or more. It is important that you do not miss any doses.

Your doctor may also want you to take pyridoxine (e.g., Hexa-Betalin; vitamin B 6) every day to help prevent or lessen some of the side effects of ethionamide. If so, it is very important to take pyridoxine every day along with this medicine. Do not miss any doses."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
